Former Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Chief Dubem Onyia, has passed away at the age of 73.

Onyia, a respected politician and diplomat, was a key figure in Nigeria’s foreign policy during the early 2000s and played a significant role in shaping the country’s international engagements.

Born in Enugu State, Onyia dedicated much of his life to public service, serving in various capacities within the government and the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).

He was appointed Minister of State for Foreign Affairs during the administration of President Olusegun Obasanjo, where he contributed to strengthening Nigeria’s diplomatic ties and advancing its global interests.

Beyond his ministerial role, Onyia was deeply involved in political development at the state and national levels.

His influence extended beyond politics, as he was also a mentor to many young leaders and a strong voice in the socio-political affairs of the Southeast region.

He is survived by his family, including children and grandchildren.
