In a tragic turn of events, bandits have claimed the life of an unidentified police officer during an attempt to abduct family members of the current chairman of Bwari area council, John Gabaya.
The assailants struck at Gabaya’s residence in the Tokulo community within the area council on Sunday, initiating a harrowing confrontation with vigilantes stationed at the chairman’s private abode.

Alerted to the unfolding crisis, a team of police officers from the Bwari division swiftly intervened, engaging the armed bandits in a fierce exchange of gunfire.
Tragically, amidst the chaos, one brave officer fell victim to the crossfire, sacrificing his life in defense of the community.
This incident marks the third assault on the council chairman’s family by bandits, with previous attacks occurring in February 2021 and February of the following year.
Confirming this, FCT police command spokesperson, SP Adeh Josephine, detailed the circumstances surrounding the foiled kidnapping attempt.
She revealed that a police team intervened just in time to prevent the abduction, engaging the perpetrators in a fierce gun battle that resulted in the death of one officer and one of the kidnappers.
Despite the loss of life, the quick response of law enforcement ensured the safety of the council chairman’s family, who were promptly evacuated to an undisclosed location for their protection.
