This brutal assault came just a day after two policemen conducting stop-and-search duties were fatally attacked by gunmen near the Government House in the state capital.
According to reports, the attackers launched their assault around 4 pm, beginning at Premier Junction in Eha-Alumona and progressing to the Army checkpoint in Orba.
In the exchange, two operatives each from the Nigeria Police Force and the Federal Road Safety Corps were tragically killed, while others sustained injuries of varying degrees.
In addition to targeting security personnel, the assailants set ablaze a Hilux van belonging to the traditional ruler of Egali Amalla Community in Udenu LG, Igwe Waziri Patrick Eze.
Despite being caught in the midst of the chaos, the monarch miraculously escaped unharmed.
The gunmen also set fire on an FRSC van during the rampage.
Governor Peter Mbah had earlier vowed to deploy all available resources to apprehend the perpetrators responsible for the previous day’s attack on policemen.
