The Nigerian presidency has downplayed President Bola Tinubu’s slip during the 2024 Democracy Day celebration, emphasizing that such incidents should not overshadow the significance of the day.

President Tinubu tripped and fell while boarding a parade vehicle at the Eagles Square in Abuja on Wednesday.

He was quickly assisted by his security detail and continued with the proceedings without further incident.

Special Assistant on Social Media to the President, Segun Dada, confirmed the incident, stating, “Mr. President missed his step while climbing into the truck at the June 12 Democracy Day celebration and tripped. It was a mild misstep. He immediately went on with the ceremonial rounds. No issues.”

The Special Adviser to the President on Media and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, took to his X platform to address the slip, stressing that President Tinubu is human and that such incidents are not uncommon among world leaders.

“President Tinubu is not a Superman. He is human like all of us. President Biden has had several slips in the last three years. Even the younger Barack Obama slipped while President. Political leaders are human. Slipping should not detract from the importance of the Democracy Day celebration,” Onanuga wrote.
