Troops from the 1 Division Nigerian Army in Kaduna have arrested 47 suspects involved in vandalizing rail tracks.

During routine patrols along Kakau Daji-Anguwan Ayaba on June 26, the troops intercepted the suspects, who had loaded two trucks with stolen rail tracks.

According to Lt.-Col. Musa Yahaya, the suspects claimed they were hired by a man known as Alhaji Babawo, who remains at large.

They were reportedly tasked with loading and hiding the tracks in a nearby bush.

The suspects underwent profiling at the 312 Artillery Regiment Kaduna. Lt.-Col. IY Rena emphasized efforts to determine each suspect’s involvement and stated that investigations are ongoing to apprehend the ringleader.

During a site visit, more concealed rail tracks were discovered, suggesting a broader criminal operation.

The suspects have been handed over to the Nigerian Railway Corporation for further action.

ASP Inuwa Dahiru, representing the corporation, praised the army for its swift response and cooperation with other security agencies.

He assured that all suspects would face thorough investigations before any legal proceedings, aiming to deter future vandalism.
