A Delta State High Court in Asaba has handed down death sentences to Abdulrasheed Mohammed and Aliyu Bawa for their involvement in armed robbery and murder.
The incident occurred on May 29, 2020, at Oni Edozien Street, Off Ezenei Avenue, Asaba.

According to the prosecution, led by Mrs. Esther Azomani of the State Ministry of Justice, Mohammed and Bawa, along with two accomplices still at large, committed the robbery while riding in a tricycle (Keke).
They targeted Ifeanyi Okafor, robbing him of his mobile phones and stabbing him in the chest, which resulted in his death.

Following the robbery, the stolen phones were sold to a third individual, Daniel Joseph, for N6,000.
Police were able to track the phones to Joseph, leading to the arrest of Mohammed and Bawa.
Presiding over the case, Justice Onome Marshall-Umukoro ruled that the prosecution successfully proved the guilt of Mohammed and Bawa beyond reasonable doubt.
Consequently, both were found guilty and sentenced to death.

However, the court determined that the case against the third defendant, Daniel Joseph, did not meet the standard of proof beyond reasonable doubt. As a result, he was acquitted of the charge of receiving stolen property.
