Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State has officially inaugurated the revitalization of Enugu United Palm Products Limited (EUPPL) in Ibite-Olo, Ezeagu Local Government Area.

The event marks the beginning of a transformative partnership with Pragmatic Palms Limited (PPL), following a substantial N100 billion investment deal signed in May.

During Thursday’s ceremony, Mbah also performed the groundbreaking for new staff quarters at the plantation site.

He expressed gratitude to the people of Enugu State for their support and belief in his vision to rejuvenate the state’s dormant assets.

“This flag-off is a victory for vision over skepticism,” Mbah stated.

He recalled that the initial announcement of the N100 billion investment faced considerable doubt and criticism.

The governor emphasized that the project is set to breathe new life into Pragmatic Palm Products Limited and advance Enugu’s standing as a hub for investment and industry.

PPL’s Managing Director/CEO, Prof. George Nwangwu, outlined a comprehensive five-year plan to elevate EUPPL to a leading position in Nigeria’s oil palm industry.

Nwangwu also highlighted that the revitalization project will generate 3,500 direct and indirect jobs.

Adaora Chukwu, Commissioner for Trade, Investment, and Industry, noted that EUPPL, initially established by the defunct East Central State in 1970, had suffered from mismanagement and outdated equipment. She emphasized that the N100 billion joint venture—where the state provides land and PPL finances 60 percent of the investment—will revitalize the company, creating jobs and boosting the local economy.

Patrick Ubru, Commissioner for Agriculture and Agro-Industrialization, underscored the strategic importance of the partnership for the Mbah administration’s agricultural goals.
