U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris has increased her lead over former President Donald Trump to 47% versus 42% in the race for the November 5 presidential election, according to a Reuters/Ipsos poll released Thursday.

This five-point advantage follows a debate where many voters felt Harris outperformed Trump.

The two-day survey, which included responses from 1,690 U.S. adults and 1,405 registered voters, indicates that 53% of those who followed the debate believe Harris won, compared to 24% who thought Trump prevailed.

Additionally, 52% of respondents perceived Trump as having faltered during the debate, while 21% thought the same of Harris.

The poll reflects a slight increase from the previous Reuters/Ipsos poll conducted from August 21-28, which showed Harris with a four-point edge over Trump.

Despite these national figures, the outcome of the election will ultimately depend on the results in key battleground states, which are expected to play a crucial role in deciding the winner.

The poll has a margin of error of about three percentage points for registered voters.
