In response to recent claims made by the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation Limited (NNPCL) spokesperson, Mr. Olufemi Soneye, Dangote Refinery has denied accusations of selling Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) at N898 per litre to the NNPCL.

The company, in a press statement issued by its Group Chief Branding and Communications Officer, Mr. Anthony Chiejina, described the statement as “misleading and mischievous,” asserting that it was aimed at downplaying the significant progress made in addressing the nation’s long-standing energy insufficiency and insecurity.

In the statement dated September 15, 2024, Mr. Chiejina clarified that the pricing of PMS would be formally announced by the Technical Sub-Committee on Naira-based crude sales to local refineries, recently appointed by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

“This announcement is scheduled for October 1, 2024, and will reflect the current realities of the market, given that the current stock of crude was procured in dollars.”

“The allegation that we are selling PMS at N898 per litre is not only false but also an attempt to undermine our efforts to stabilize the energy sector, which has been grappling with issues for over 50 years,” the statement read.

The company further noted that its sale of products to NNPCL was conducted in dollars and at rates significantly more cost-effective than what the NNPCL is currently importing.

It assured Nigerians that its actions would lead to an adequate supply of petrol nationwide, reaching even the most remote local governments, thereby helping to eliminate the perennial issue of fuel scarcity in the country.

“We remain committed to ensuring the availability of quality petroleum products and to ending the endemic fuel scarcity in Nigeria,” Mr. Chiejina added, urging the public to disregard the “malicious statement” and remain patient for the forthcoming official pricing announcement.
