The Department of State Services (DSS) has released several #EndBadGovernance protesters who were detained during the nationwide anti-hunger protests held from August 1-10, 2024.

This move followed an order by the new Director-General of the DSS, Adeola Oluwatosin Ajayi, who directed the immediate release of individuals arrested during the protests and found to be innocent of any wrongdoing.

A security source confirmed that Ajayi gave the directive on September 19, 2024, ensuring the release of cleared protesters.

The source further revealed that six individuals detained in Kaduna have been freed as part of this directive, although their names were not disclosed.

However, the source also noted that three other individuals are facing prosecution, as there were established cases against them.

In a related development, another security source emphasized that the DSS director-general reaffirmed the right of citizens to engage in peaceful protests, as guaranteed by the Nigerian constitution.

Nonetheless, he stressed that the agency would continue to investigate and prosecute anyone who exploits such rights to engage in criminal activities.
