An Israeli airstrike on Friday targeted the Syrian border, severing the main international road that connects Lebanon and Syria, according to Lebanese officials.

This road is crucial for humanitarian access, particularly for the thousands of Syrian refugees who have sought safety in Lebanon amid ongoing violence in Syria.

The coastal region of Lebanon shares borders with both Israel and Syria, with Hezbollah actively engaged in conflict against Israel.

Israeli authorities claim that Hezbollah utilizes this route to transport weapons from Syria, its ally.

“The road leading to the primary humanitarian crossing for many Lebanese into Syria is now blocked following the Israeli strike,” stated Transport Minister Ali Hamieh in an interview with AFP.

Lebanon’s official National News Agency confirmed the airstrike, reporting that “enemy warplanes targeted the Masnaa area,” the location of the crossing, effectively cutting off the route.
