Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa of Ondo State, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate in the upcoming November 16 governorship election, has approved a new minimum wage of N73,000 for civil servants in the state.
This announcement comes shortly after the federal government agreed to a national minimum wage of N70,000 in a deal with organized labor.

Speaking at the APC flag-off campaign event in Ondo West Local Government Area, Aiyedatiwa, alongside his deputy, Chief Olayide Adelami, emphasized his administration’s commitment to improving workers’ welfare.
He noted that, despite the federal benchmark, Ondo State would exceed the national figure by setting its minimum wage at N73,000.

“Our civil servants have been consistently motivated through regular salary payments, training programs, and promotions. We have decided to implement the new minimum wage, but instead of the N70,000 set by the federal government, we will offer N73,000,” Aiyedatiwa stated. He also urged citizens to turn out in large numbers on November 16 to support the APC.
Aiyedatiwa took the opportunity to highlight several developmental projects initiated under his leadership, particularly in the areas of rural infrastructure, education, healthcare, and security.

He noted the construction of rural roads aimed at enhancing farmers’ access to urban markets, thereby improving food security.
The governor also mentioned the renovation of schools and employment of more teachers to improve the education system.
The governor further discussed security improvements in the state, notably through the Amotekun security initiative and the establishment of forest rangers to protect farmers from attacks.

In the health sector, Aiyedatiwa emphasized his administration’s efforts to curb the “japa” syndrome by increasing the salaries of medical personnel to retain talent in the state.
Beyond these efforts, the governor said his administration has prioritized youth empowerment, launching various programs to encourage entrepreneurship and self-reliance.
He also revealed ongoing renovations of the Akure sports stadium, aimed at enhancing sporting activities in the state.

Hon. Abiola Makinde, Director General of Aiyedatiwa’s campaign council, praised the governor’s performance, describing his administration as masses-oriented.
Makinde urged voters to use their PVCs on election day to ensure Aiyedatiwa’s return to office, assuring them that the governor would continue to deliver on his promises.
Ade Adetimehin, Ondo APC Chairman, expressed confidence in the party’s victory, predicting that Aiyedatiwa would secure 80 percent of the vote in the upcoming election.
