The Ogun State Police Command has intensified efforts to track down suspected cultists responsible for the murder of Adeyinka Adeleke, a councillorship candidate for the All Progressives Congress (APC), who was brutally killed on Saturday.

Confirming the tragic incident, the command’s spokesperson, Omolola Odutola, stated that Adeleke, who was contesting for the Abeokuta South Local Government Ward 15 seat in the upcoming November 16 elections, was attacked by gunmen believed to be members of a cult group.

The attack occurred around 12:30 pm in the Oke-Ilewo area of Abeokuta.

According to eyewitness reports, the assailants arrived in an unregistered, tinted Toyota Corolla sports car, armed with a pump-action shotgun and a pistol.

They opened fire, fatally wounding Adeleke before fleeing the scene.

Odutola explained that police officers quickly responded to the scene, documenting the incident and launching an investigation.

However, the family of the deceased requested and took possession of the body without undergoing an autopsy.

“The police are pursuing leads, and investigations have begun to apprehend the suspects responsible for this heinous crime,” Odutola said, assuring the public that routine patrols have been increased in the area as part of the efforts to ensure security and prevent further violence.
