Aisha Yesufu, a prominent Nigerian human rights activist, has expressed that her support for Peter Obi, the former Labour Party presidential candidate, is not unconditional.

In a recent appearance on Seun Okinbaloye’s podcast “Mic On,” Yesufu made it clear that if a better candidate emerges for the 2027 presidential election, she would switch her support.

Yesufu emphasized that she is not a member of the Labour Party but backed Obi during the 2023 elections because she believed he was the most suitable candidate for Nigeria at the time.

She reiterated that her priority is the country, not any political party or individual.

“I am not tied to anyone,” she stated.

“If there is a better candidate, I will support them. Even Peter Obi himself has said that he is not desperate to become President but is committed to seeing Nigeria succeed.”

Yesufu’s activism has long centered on advocating for a better Nigeria, notably through her involvement in movements like #BringBackOurGirls and #EndSARS.

In a separate discussion, Yesufu was critical of President Bola Tinubu, echoing Senator Ali Ndume’s remarks that Tinubu was a “bad person.”

Yesufu further stated that calling him a bad person was an understatement, highlighting the severe economic hardship Nigerians are enduring under his administration.
