The Super Eagles have safely returned to Nigeria after being stranded at a Libyan airport for over 13 hours ahead of their AFCON 2025 qualifier.

The team was left in limbo at Al Abraq International Airport, with photos showing players sleeping on benches, sparking widespread outrage on social media early Monday.

Following hours of uncertainty, Libyan authorities finally granted clearance for the team’s flight to depart, allowing the Super Eagles to head back home.

William Troost-Ekong took to his X account to express pride in the team’s resilience.

“Back home safe & sound. Proud of this team, NAIJA SPIRIT can’t be broken. Throw at us what you want, it’s in our blood to overcome,” he wrote.

Reflecting on the situation, Troost-Ekong added, “In my 10 years with this group, I’ve seen a lot, but nothing like this. It’s an experience that has brought us even closer together.”
