The Delta State Police Command has issued a strong warning to Point of Sale (POS) operators regarding transactions over ₦500,000, cautioning that such activities could potentially link them to criminal acts, particularly kidnappings.
SP Bright Edafe, the Public Relations Officer of the Command, revealed that POS operators engaging in high-value transactions risk becoming tools for kidnappers and other criminals.

He cited a recent case where a POS operator processed a ransom payment of ₦4,000,000, earning only ₦40,000 in commission.
“Don’t allow yourself to be used by kidnappers to collect ransom,” SP Edafe warned.
“These transactions will be traced back to you.”
Edafe further emphasized that any POS transaction exceeding ₦500,000 could land operators in serious legal trouble.

He urged operators to stay vigilant and adhere strictly to federal regulations, which are designed to limit large transactions and prevent misuse by criminals.
He added, “You might think you’re just doing business, but the legal consequences could be severe. Before your lawyer can intervene, you might spend time behind bars.”
The police also encouraged POS operators to report any suspicious transactions to authorities and follow proper guidelines to avoid being implicated in criminal activities.
