The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has confirmed the arrest of popular crossdresser Idris Okuneye, also known as Bobrisky, at the Seme Border while allegedly attempting to flee the country.

In a statement released Monday night, NIS spokesperson DCI KT Udo described Bobrisky as a person of interest in relation to ongoing matters of public concern.

According to Udo, Bobrisky is currently being interrogated and will be handed over to the appropriate authorities for further investigation.

“The Service remains committed to its responsibility of securing the nation’s borders in a professional and civil manner,” Udo added.

The arrest comes amid ongoing controversy surrounding Bobrisky, following allegations by popular blogger Martins Otse, also known as VeryDarkMan.

The blogger accused the crossdresser of paying ₦15 million to officers of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to avoid money laundering charges after a lavish naira-spraying incident in April.

The blogger also claimed that Bobrisky secured special privileges in prison by paying large sums of money during his six-month sentence.

While Bobrisky has denied these allegations, both the EFCC and the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) launched investigations into the matter.

The House of Representatives also initiated a probe, leading to the suspension of several senior NCoS officers.

On September 30, 2024, the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, set up a committee to investigate allegations of misconduct within the NCoS.

The committee’s report, submitted on Monday, confirmed that while Bobrisky completed his six-month prison sentence, he received preferential treatment, including access to amenities like a television and refrigerator during his incarceration.
