Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, the Director-General of the World Trade Organization (WTO), has called out Biafran activist Simon Ekpa for using her name to promote false information.
Ekpa, in a now-deleted post on X, alleged that the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) had agreed to grant $57.5 billion to the Biafra Republic Government in Exile (BRGIE).
He further claimed that Okonjo-Iweala played a role in securing the funds.

“The World Bank and IMF have agreed to loan the sum of $57.5 billion to Biafra Republic Government in Exile (BRGIE) to establish our government following the December 2nd, 2024, declaration of Biafra. I extend my thanks to our sister, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, for her assistance in facilitating the loan,” Ekpa posted.
Responding to these assertions, Okonjo-Iweala denied any involvement, labeling the claims as baseless.
She took to X to caution against the misuse of her name, highlighting the importance of countering misinformation in uncertain times.

“I know no sensible person will believe what is contained in the outrageous tweet below but in these troubled times it is important to underscore that the statement is false. Again I enjoin all those seeking to misuse my name to desist !” she stated in her response.
