Monday Osazuwa, a dispatch rider, testified before a Lagos High Court in Ikeja that former Central Bank Governor Godwin Emefiele instructed him not to keep any records of the money he allegedly collected on Emefiele’s behalf.
Osazuwa, the first prosecution witness in Emefiele’s trial, returned to the witness stand on Monday after Justice Rahman Oshodi granted a request for his recall.
Emefiele faces charges of abuse of office and money laundering involving $4.5 billion and ₦2.8 billion.
During the hearing, Osazuwa stated that he had spoken directly with Emefiele several times, during which Emefiele advised him against writing anything down regarding the money he received or delivered.
The witness admitted he had no documentation from either Emefiele or his co-accused, Henry Omoile, confirming the receipt of any funds.
He also acknowledged that there were no witnesses present when he handed over the money to Emefiele.
